The Driver Education Program offered is open to any area high school age student. This program is not available to ADULTS who have graduated from high school.
The Driver Education Program is Certified by the Arizona Department of Education and Arizona Department of Transportation/Motor Vehicle Division for participation in the Arizona High School Driver Education Program. The Instructors are ADE Certified with the Driver Education Endorsement. All eligible high school students can participate. Please plan accordingly and make sure the eligible student finishes the Behind The Wheel driving time prior to turning 18 years of age. If the student is 18 and in high school he/she can still participate in the program.
The Program consists of 36 hours: 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of Behind The Wheel driving time in our vehicles equipped with a front passenger brake. Please allow several weeks after the classroom portion is completed before the BTW is scheduled. Please read all the information provided on the registration form. Please choose a class that allows for plenty of time to complete the BTW. Registration fee is $400 and is Arizona Tax Credit eligible.
FUSD would like acknowledge our local NAPA Auto Parts store who have offered a free Driver Safety Kit to each student who completes the Driver Education program and presents a coupon along with their newly issued Driver's License to obtain this kit. Thank you!

Our program is designed for high school students, charter school students and home school students, who are close to getting their Instructor Permit at age of 15 years and 6 months or while they are still in high school. It is highly recommended to take the classroom instruction and do the Behind The Wheel driving time as soon as possible, working with the instructor's schedule. Please allow several weeks after the classroom portion is finished before the student begins the BTW. Each instructor drives each student individually in 2 hour increments on three different days. It does take some time to work through the list so patience is needed. The student must complete the Behind The Wheel within one year upon completion of the classroom instruction. We do not offer BTW to students who have already received their Driver's License as they don't pay attention and it is a waste of valuable time. Adults can not take this program.
YES. If school is canceled, so is the Drivers' Education class. In the event that classes are canceled, extra days may be added to the class, or homework is assigned at the instructor's discretion. If after school activities/sports are canceled due to the weather turning bad during the school day, the driver's education class will also be canceled.
Students will be using district cars which are equipped with a front passenger brake.
Flagstaff Unified School District provides insurance for students completing their driving training and must have a registration form on file.
Driver Education classes are held at Coconino High School and Flagstaff High School after school. You can attend whichever school that is convenient for you.
YES. Our program is open to all high school students.
The instructors are Arizona Department of Education Certified teachers with a Driver Education endorsement.
