2023 Welcome Letter and Meet Schedule
SMS Cross Country Families,Welcome the 2023 SMS cross country program! Once again, we have a record number of athletes out for XC (107). This year's season started on Aug 21 and runs until Oct 28. Those athletes who qualify to run at the state meet will train for one extra week with the state meet set for Nov 4. (More info later) This year we have returning coaches Tom Viskocil and Molly Johnson, along with new coaches Steve Rhode and Brian Wade.
Transportation is again a challenge this year. Therefore, we will only practice on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 2:35-4pm. SMS will provide transportation to the meets we attend within city limits during the week, but athletes must be picked up by parents at the end of the meet. Most meets start at 3pm and end at 5pm. More info on each individual meet will come when that meet draws near.
All athletes are important and will get the attention they need to be successful. While athletes need to bring a water bottle to practice every day so they can stay hydrated, parents can help by making sure their athlete gets plenty to eat and plenty of rest. Now that training has started, your child's body will crave food, water and sleep.
If you have questions, please contact us. We will try to provide weekly info on this webpage to keep you informed.
